Celebrate National Aboriginal Day in Whistler - Jun 19, 2012

National Aboriginal Day is this Thursday June 21;
join us at the Squamish Lil'wat Cultural Centre for a day of
interactive activities and the unveiling of a new exhibition in the
centre's museum.
Throughout the day a series of interactive activities
will be taking place including:
Children's Arts and Crafts
Rock painting, weaving and scavenger hunt
Aboriginal Artist Market
Come down and meet and greet local aboriginal artists. Local
artists painting, carvings and weavings will be on display and
available for purchase.
Outdoor BBQ
All day long there will be an outdoor BBQ cooking up traditional
aboriginal favorites including salmon burgers, venison burgers and
bison sausages.
Feature Performance
The day will also feature a performance by a traditional Lil'wat
language chant and drum group. This roots infused group will be
performing at 12PM, 1PM and 3PM.
Unveiling of New Exhibition
Make sure not miss the days big event the unveiling of the new
cultural Squamish & Lil'wat exhibition. The exhibit will
feature various exposes on the traditions of the local bands. These
include a look at the building of traditional canoes, a feature on
traditional tribes fishing techniques and a look through the years
of the local bands territory borders.
