For the second year in a row, Whistler and Pemberton
will play host to the famous IRONMAN Canada race.
This amazing test of endurance, strength and heart is one of the
sternest physical tests one can but their body through. Athletes
competing in these events around the world train up to a year in
advance to be ready for the physical toll.
This massive triathlon series is the most recognized endurance
race in the world and attracts thousands of participants everywhere
it goes. IRONMAN® Canada is our version of the Canadian
National Championship and offers up several qualifying spots for
the World Championships that take place every year
in Kailua-Kona, Hawaii.
- Did you know that over 2800 athletes will be competing
in IRONMAN® Canada? Many of these athletes train year
round for this event to be ready for the physical toll it takes to
- If you breakdown the course by each event athletes must
complete the following number of Kilometres; Swimming: 3.8km,
Biking: 180km, Running:42km, Combined: 225.8km.
- Athletes will be competing for 100 available
spots at various age categories for the World
Championships held on October 12, 2013 in Kailua-Kona, Hawaii.
- Every year hundreds of athletes don't complete the
event due to sheer exhaustion or because they haven't completed a
stage in the allotted time allowed. Each stage has a
cut off time and if an athlete hasn't completed the stage by that
time they are disqualified. The swimming portion starts at 6:50AM
on Sunday and athletes have until 12PM that night to cross the
finish line in Whistler.
