Pemberton Distillery Wins Awards

Pemberton Distillery Wins Awards

The Pemberton Distillery was recently featured in National Geographic's Digital Nomad.  The article titled The Top 10 Eats & Drinks in Whistler focuses on author Andrew Evans favourite 'foodie' destinations in the Whistler area.  He credits Pemberton farms and the proximity of the Okanagan wine country as having 'turned Whistler into a gourmet destination'.  The Pemberton Distillery was placed alongside well known foodie favourites including the famed Bearfoot Bistro and Araxi Restaurant.

The Pemberton Distillery produces Schramm vodka, Schramm organic gin and organic single malt whiskey.  Schramm Vodka is produced from locally grown organic ingredients which is then expertly distilled on 500L copper pot still with modified column and then blended to proof with pristine mountain water.  Schramm Vodka has received highly acclaimed reviews and awards including Double Gold at World Spirits Awards Spirit of the Year, World Spirits Awards, 2010 and Highly Recommended, Spirit Journal, 2010.

Schramm Gin is a rare gin produced from potato spirit. As gin is essentially distilled vodka, most gins are created using industrial neutral grain alcohol. True to Pemberton Distillery philosophy to produce authentic, distinct and regionally inspired spirits, they choose to use the Pemberton Valley's finest organic potatoes to make their own base spirit. They then add 8 organic herbs and botanicals to the still and allow them to rest in the spirit before completing the gin distillation.

In September 2010, the Pemberton Distillery produced the first small run of organic single malt whisky using organic malted barley from British Columbia and pristine mountain water. Master Distiller, Tyler Schramm, prepares the entire mash and carries out the fermentation on site.  "We stick to tradition and add absolutely nothing to our mash or finished spirit. Water, malt and yeast are our only ingredients!" says Tyler. The whisky will age in American Oak ex-Bourbon casks for a minimum of three years.

The Pemberton Distillery is located in the Pemberton industrial park, just 4km north of the Pemberton Valley Lodge.  The distillery is open on Friday and Saturdays for guided tours and tastings.  Opening hours are 12noon to 6pm and the guided distillery tours take place at 1pm and 3pm. Tastings are complimentary and guided tours are $5 per person.  For more information visit the Pemberton Distillery website.
