Pemberton Valley Lodge Nominated for "Best Community Impact"

Pemberton Valley Lodge Nominated For Best Community Impact
This award goes to the British Columbia small business with fewer than 50 employees that is making a difference in its community. We're more than pleased that Pemberton Valley Lodge is in the running for this award, because it gives us the opportunity to reflect on and share with you some of the behind-the-scenes ways Pemberton Valley Lodge works to make a difference in Pemberton.
Passion with a Purpose
Working within the local lil'wat nation territory
We think the work we do to uplift our community is a large part of the reason we are the number one place to stay in the Pemberton area (according to your reviews on Trip Advisor). We don't talk about it much, but what we do and how we do it matters to us. We know that we are in First Nations Traditional Territory, and because of this, we hire 50% of our staff from the local Lil'wat Nation Mount Currie Reserve. Because training and work experience are an important part of ensuring that the community builds and prospers, we have also been involved in the development of training and work experience programs in the Lil'wat Nation.
Gingerbread project
In 2011, we came up with a way to support our local food bank and engage the entire local community in our efforts. It's been a lot of fun, and we think we've put smiles on a few faces, too. Everyone likes gingerbread creations (not just houses, that's for sure!), and whether you enjoy building them or simply admiring them, this is a fundraiser that involves everyone. Local businesses create their masterpieces, then the community votes on their favorite through a silent auction. All proceeds go to the local food bank, and throughout the event, community members are encouraged to bring in their canned goods to donate as well. It's a win-win-win-win.
Cops for Cancer
We love to support this ride and are so glad that the men and women riders are so dedicated to this cause. To support them in their efforts, we provide accommodation to the riders, and raise money through our Jeans Days to contribute to the team.
Green key eco rating
Staying green is a key part of how we feel we make a positive impact on our community. Hotels are notorious polluters, but through the green key program, our industry can go through steps to make sure our impact on the environment is a positive one. We have been given the highest rating possible: 5 Keys. This is a huge honor, and one we have worked hard for. To learn more about our initiatives, watch the video on this page.
Vote Now Until November 30
Nominations began on October 1, and voting has been going on since then. We really need your help to win this award, and we think that bringing this award home to Pemberton could positively impact the entire community. We're small, but we do great things together. Let's show the rest of British Columbia what community really means. Help us win this by voting today -- and tell your friends to vote as well. Everyone can vote once until November 30, when the top 10 finalists will be announced. Thank you so much for your support!
