Opening Day of the WSSF
Did you know today Friday, April 12 was the opening day of the World Ski & Snowboard Festival (WSSF). The WSSF is a huge event held just 25 minutes down the road in Whistler. The festival features a number of FREE events including FREE concert series, art shows, ski & snowboard competitions & fashion shows. When: April 12 - 21 | Where: Skiers Plaza (Main Stage)
The WSSF Concert Series is one of the main draws of the 10 day festival. During the festival daily concerts are held at the Main Stage located at Skiers Plaza (Base of Whistler Mountain). This year's concert line-up is one of the best they've had in years and includes artist, Nas, K-OS, Arkells, DiRTY RADiO, Swollen Members & G-Love & Special Sauce. When: April 20 | Where: Where: Skiers Plaza (Main Stage)
For the first time ever Fashion Exposed will be a FREE event at the WSSF. The event will be making the move over to the Main Stage located at Skiers Plaza - home to the Concert Series. This year's event will showcase all the newest trends in the surf, ski & snowboard industry. An added bonus about this year's event is they will be giving away over $3000 worth of new clothes & accessories to the crowd. Fashion Exposed takes place from 3:30PM - 4:30PM at Skiers Plaza.
World Skiing Invitational & The Shred Show
When: April 12 - 20 | Where: Throughout Whistler & Blackcomb Mountain
So many events are held every year at the WSSF that we tend to forget what this festival was originally all about: skiing and snowboarding contest. This year there will be contests held on the hill most day's during the festival. The World Skiing Invitational takes place from April 12 - 15 and features skiing slopestyle & big air contests. The biggest event is the Skiing Big Air contest which takes play this Saturday, April 13 at Skiers Plaza. For more information on this event head on over to the World Skiing Invitational webpage.
That covers the skiers but what about the snowboarders you ask? Well they have their own competition called the Shred Show that takes place April 18 - 20. The Shred Show features contests in the boarder cross, slope style and big air categories. Once again the biggest snowboard contest is always the Snowboard Big Air which takes place on Saturday, April 20 at Skiers Plaza. All of the Shred Show and World Skiing Invitational contests are open to the public to watch and of course are FREE. State of the Art
When: April 12 - 21 | Where: Whistler Conference Centre
State of the Art is a FREE art show held throughout the festival at the Whistler Conference Centre. Over 50 artist are featured at this year's event. The art genres covered at this show are vast ranging from street art, pop art, traditional landscape art, live art and much much more. The State of the Art show is open every day during the duration of the festival from 12PM - 6PM. One of the cool features of this year's event is the Shop From Home page. This webpage allows people who can't make it to the event to check out all the artwork in this year's show. You can also head over there to scout for your favorite piece to buy before you check out the show as well.
