Pemberton Valley Lodge Takes Gold for Being Green
It's not easy being green, but Pemberton
Valley Lodge has once again proven it's up to the
challenge. The lodge has been awarded gold status with
Green Tourism Canada, becoming the first hotel in the region, and
only second in the province, to do so.
"It's great to see our efforts being recognized," says General Manager David MacKenzie. "To receive a designation shared by only one other hotel in all of BC is very exciting. It validates the hard work our staff and management does to ensure that we're an eco-friendly, environmentally aware hotel."
Green Tourism Canada is a branch of the prestigious Green Tourism Business Scheme based in Scotland. The international organization assesses the level of environmental sustainability of its membership through third-party evaluations.
The Pemberton Valley Lodge won top marks for its commitment to sustainability outlined in Green Tourism's 16-page evaluation of the property. The report cited a number of initiatives the hotel has undertaken including: in room recycling, water conservation measures including low flush toilets and aerated showers, recycling of solid waste (paper, cardboard, plastic and tin), exterior and interior LED lighting, EV charging stations and use of green energy.
The lodge was also commended for using local suppliers, sourcing green suppliers and participating in charities such as "Clean the World" and local shelters by donating linens and unused toiletries.
"At Pemberton Valley Lodge we're inviting people to come and enjoy our valley's beautiful environment, it just makes sense to care for it," says MacKenzie.
The gold award from Green Tourism Canada comes on the heels of 5 Green Key rating through the Green Key Eco-Rating Program the resort hotel received in 2012.
