2104 #WeAreWinter Olympics in Pemberton
"We Are Winter" in Pemberton
When we created our 2014 Winter Olympics Give Away, we knew we wanted to support the winter Olympics and help Pemberton cheer on our Canadian athletes. With today's win by Dara Howell of Ontario, however, Canada is well ahead in gold medals won this olympics, at 4 wins.
Canada Leads Sochi 2014 Medal Count
For the first time ever, Canada is leading all medal counts. We have sent a team to every single winter olympics since the games began in 1900, and in the 2010 Vancouver/Whistler games, for the first time ever, we had the most medals earned. Those facts added together could mean a strong start for Canada, and an even stronger finish. In the 2010 games, the sports Canada is strongest in were held last, and so we did not gain momentum until much later in the games.
This time, though, we are starting strong, and there is every indication that we will finish strong as well.
Every Time Canada Wins, You Win
And this year, that means Pemberton and our guests will win as well. We will be drawing one name each time Canada wins a gold medal during the olympics this year. All guests who are staying during this time, as well as locals who have entered the draw, have a chance to win a complimentary night's stay with us. We're happy to share the olympic spirit with our guests and with Pembertonians, the people who have supported us throughout the years and who are a large part of the reason that we are consistently ranked the number one place to stay in the Pemberton area.
Freestyle Skiing is Canada's Strongest Sport
And it is also a local sport. Whistler's own Yuki Tsubota, a 20-year-old local who grew up in Whistler, competed in Sochi. Unfortunately, she suffered a crash in the finals, which, as the Toronto Sun notes, "was more spectacular than severe," thankfully. She is in good spirits and our thoughts are with her as she recovers.
Canada has won 6 of 9 possible medals in freestyle skiing so far, which has really helped the momentum for Canadian fans. And we are with you, keeping the television in our lobby tuned to the CBC and offering a great place to watch the games with friends.
So stop by and watch the games with us. And remember that every time Canada wins, you win, too!
