Green Tourism Important at Pemberton Valley Lodge
Green Initiatives at Pemberton Valley Lodge
With Earth Hour coming up tomorrow and Earth Day following on April 22, we thought it was a great time to take a moment to let you know about some of the green initiatives we are involved with here at Pemberton Valley Lodge, and why this is so important to us.
With our tenth anniversary coming up in just a few months (August 15th, actually) we are reflecting a bit on our commitment to Pemberton and how important being green is to us.
A few of the green initiatives that are important to us include a 5 Key GreenKey Rating which includes PVL getting an actual audit by GreenKey. This third party audit is an extra step that we feel is an important one for hotels that can do it. It shows that extra layer of commitment to the process.
The 5 Key rating is the highest possible rating, and of the over 2000 hotels involved in the GreenKey rating, only 54 have attained this level.
Green Tourism also did an audit of Pemberton Valley Lodge and we attained a gold rating, their highest rating given.
Some of the reasons for our excellent ratings include things like being a part of Bullfrog Power, the 100% green energy supplier, having a car charging station in our underground parking lot and offering blue boxes for recycling in each guest room and suite.
Recently, we also began to include reusable shopping bags in each room that guests can take with them when they leave. We hope these bags will reduce the use of disposable plastic bags, as well as being a reminder of your stay with us.
Earth Hour
Tomorrow, we'll celebrate Earth Hour from 8:30 PM to 9:30 PM with our guests by turning all non-essential lighting off on our premises and giving each guest a small flashlight which we encourage you to use during your stay and take with you as a keepsake of your time with us. Well have candle light in our lobby as well, and hope you'll join us during this event.
Earth Day
And on the Saturday before Earth Day, we hope you'll join us as we take part in a community clean-up. All our staff, guests, and the public are encouraged to join in with us. It's an important day for us and we think it's a bit of fun as well.
If you'd like to spend some of your Saturday with us helping make Pemberton a bit more beautiful, we provide a lunch and make light work of it and have a lot of fun.
We hope you share our love for the environment. We think taking these extra steps to do what we can for this earth and our community is important.
Take a minute, if you'd like, to view the video below which gives a bit more insight into the green initiatives we practice and think are important.
