Help us Celebrate the Raising on the New Community Barn
From May 12th to 24th 2014 the community of Pemberton will begin construction on a community barn. The barn will be constructed in the downtown core located on Frontier Street adjacent to the Pemberton Pharmacy and railway tracks. Once completed the barn will serve as the host site for the Pemberton Farmers Market, community dances, outdoor movie screening and several other events.
Thanks to a generous donation of $240,000 from the Whistler Blackcomb Foundation and a recent partnership with the Timber Framers Guild the project has been given the green light to move forward. Members from the volunteer organization the Timber Framers Guild will take the lead on the project with help from select members from the community. Many thanks must be given to members of the Framers Guild who will send some 50 volunteers who will be volunteering their time and skills for FREE. This amazing organization is a non for profit group comprised of carpenters who come together on projects that benefit communities around Canada and the United States.
Some important dates to take note of include May 22nd and 23rd. On these days the frame of the barn will be raised in a traditional barn raising fashion. Members of the community are encouraged to drop by and watch the event unfold. On Friday, May 23rd there will be a special "hoedown" celebration held at the Pemberton Community Centre to celebrate the completion of the project. Anyone and everyone are invited to come out for food, drinks and dancing.
Nobody leaves for the dinner bell during a barn raising!
