Ready, Set — Gingerbread Season at Pemberton Valley Lodge
Are you ready? It's that time again!
Can you smell that lovely warmth streaming out of kitchens throughout Pemberton? Do you feel that creative frenzy in the air as business people stay up into the wee hours of the night improving on their last year's creations and planning the masterpieces for this year's contest?
Still not sure what's going on in Pemberton?
What one activity can take you back to times gone by, improve your mood, help the hungry and give you a chance at winning a night's stay in Vancouver?
The Pemberton Valley Lodge Gingerbread Project, that's what.
Every year, local business people take time from their busy schedules to take part in a community project that goes well beyond a simple fundraiser.
The idea is simple: Local businesses can create a gingerbread project (because gingerbread "house" just doesn't do the creations justice...) that goes on display at the Pemberton Valley Lodge. The entry fee for the contest goes to the Pemberton Food Bank.
The community then steps in to vote on their favourite creation, and in the process, brings canned goods and donations for the Food Bank, and helps to choose the winning creation. When people find a creation they particularly like, they can bid on it in a silent auction. Yep, that money also ends up going to the Pemberton Food Bank.
The funds raised are essential to keeping all of Pemberton warm and fed through this holiday season. But the community building and fun that happens throughout the contest does so much more than simply raising much needed funds for fellow community members. The inclusiveness of the project, the simplicity, the spirit of friendly competition all come together to create a tradition that we've all come to look forward to year after year.
We hope you'll join us again this year as we help feed those in need this holiday season - and create some gingerbread masterpieces as we do it.
