Bike in the Morning, Sled in the Afternoon (& Suntan, too?)
What a winter we've been having. We keep spotting visitors in the Village, at the Lodge, and around the valley with huge smiles on their faces. It's pretty cool - We invite you to see why.
WOW - This Winter Has Been Epic So Far!
Ski or go snowmobiling in our vast backcountry. The snow is still there, and it's just as cold and fluffy and white as it always is. But the valley is as green as springtime, or at least it's headed that direction - fast. The mountain bikers are out in droves, as well as road cyclists who are apparently training for upcoming summer races.
Our forecast for this coming week calls for snow, which will bring things a bit more in balance in favour of the snowy sports. But still, this winter has been an incredible opportunity to experience all the activities you enjoy, all in one getaway. You can, quite literally, go for a quick ski or sled in the morning and bike in the afternoon. This is something Pemberton folk often talk about near the end of the season, well into spring. As one mountain biker commented, it's the white powder in the morning, the brown powder in the afternoon.
We've noticed that, as the sun shines down and people get outdoors, there are a lot of smiles this winter season. It's a rare winter when you can truly be outdoors in the sunshine taking part in all those awesome activities we love here: hiking, biking, horseback riding, etc. and know that you can also drive a short distance to the backcountry and have all the snow you can handle. Most of us are hard pressed to remember that last winter like this, and we expect that there won't be another quite like it again for quite some time.
Pick Your Pleasure: Snow and Sun are Here
For those of you who would like a more civilized approach to snow, Whistler Blackcomb's alpine is calling, too. They've got a solid base and great skiing and boarding up in their alpine, a short 25 minutes away (using our convenient shuttle service, it's door-to-door with no parking hassle). When we spoke to the folks at Pemberton Bike Co., they reaffirmed what we've been noticing, saying that, in their opinion, you could very well be sun tanning in your bikini this winter. Surely, there must be limits - mustn't there?
"Winter" Can't Last Forever - But March May Be the Best Yet!
With the new storm front arriving this week, it looks like we have a few more weeks of winter left. So there is still time to take advantage of our circumstances and take on some of your favourite winter activities in milder conditions than we're used to. We hope to see you soon - either in our hot tub or on the trails!
