Whistler GO Fest
The Whistler Great Outdoor Festival returns this Victoria Day weekend May 15-18, 2015. The idea behind the festival is to celebrate the transition season in Whistler from winter to summer with a number of sporting events, free concerts, races, demo's and more.
During the event participants will have a chance to register for some 70+ events that range from relay races to yoga seminars to concerts to painting demo's. The event is called the Great Outdoor Festival for a reason because festival organizers want you to get outside and explore the remarkable environment that is Whistler.
One of the more popular events on tap for the weekend includes the Great Earth Snow Water Race. Teams of 6 to 8 people must complete 6 stages during this relay marathon extravaganza. The relay includes a ski/snowboard touring leg, downhill skiing/snowboarding, downhill mountain biking, running, canoeing through the River of Golden Dreams, and finishes in a cross-country mountain bike race. And there's more competitive action beyond the finish line. After the race participants gather for a wicked after party including apres and drinks.
Mountain bike enthusiasts should pay attention to the GO Fest Enduro. This event features 4 timed stages on the Whistler Mountain Bike Park with the best cumulative time taking home honours. Back by popular demand the DiskGO Disk Golf Championships returns. This year the events has expanded to a two-day tournament format with the goal being to accumulate the lowest rounds over two days. There are 11 different entry categories for this event meaning all levels of disk golfers are encouraged to take part. Several other sporting events on tap include the GO Fest Tennis Championships, GO Sail Regatta, GO Volleyball and many more.
If sporting events aren't quite to your liking their is also a number of art and culture events on tap for the weekend. You can catch a number of painting workshops, film screenings, art exhibits or the Whistler Sunday Farmer's Market.
Capping off each night at GO Fest you can catch a FREE concert in the Whistler Village Square. Artists playing at this year's event include April Wine, Current Swell, Dustin Bentall & Kendal Carson, Bentall, Byrnes and Mann, Will Ross Band, Dakota Pearl and Willa. Once again these concerts are absolutely FREE to attend check out the daily concert line-up here.
