Beat the Summer Heat in Pemberton

If you haven't noticed Pemberton is currently experiencing a bit of a hot spell. To help you out we've put together a list of our favorite ways to beat the Pemberton heat. Spoiler cold water is usually involved.

#1 Hit the Lake

One Mile Lake Summer

No shocker here! When it's stinking hot outside the best way to cool down is by hitting one of Pemberton's many lakes. If closeness is your priority then check out One Mile Lake located 2 minutes outside of town. If you're up for a bit of an adventure then why not check out Lillooet Lake or Joffre Lake. These glacier fed lakes are a sure-fire way to cool the body down with an icy dip. If you're looking for a more relaxed water temperature then make sure to hit up Mosquito, Ivey or Gates. Each one of these lakes is located about 20 minutes out of town but offers the perfect combination of not-too-cool but not-too-warm water.

#2 Grab an Ice Cream from The Pony

When the temperature gauge is pushing 30 one of the quickest and most satisfying ways to cool down is with an ice cream cone. Luckily The Pony Restaurant offers up delicious ice cream cones that hit the spot. Walk, or bike to The Pony and let that soft cream cone cool you down.

# 3 Hang or Float Down the River

Floating in a River

Pemberton is full of river access points great for hanging out all day or better yet taking a float. Pemberton's two closest rivers the Lillooet Lake and Birkenhead have several access points where it's calm enough to waddle in or go for an inner tube float. The Lillooet Lake River in Mount Currie, in particular, is a great place to go for a float during a hot day. Spend your day half way out your tube and half way in the water. The best access point to the river is at the Xit'Olacw Rd Bridge. Just park your car there and take a float down the river until you reach Lillooet Lake. Remember you'll need someone to pick you up down-river or have a car pre-parked there waiting for you. River floating is a bit of a process but makes for a great way to spend a lazy afternoon cooling down.

IMPORTANT! This information is meant to provide a general guide. You should always exercise caution with any outdoor activity and plan appropriately, and do so at your own risk.

At various points of the year, rivers may be too cold, the current may be too strong and/or rivers may contain debris that may make floating hazardous. These conditions may exist up to early summer or after weather events. Always confirm river conditions before floating! A good place to start to check for conditions is on the BC Government's River Forest Conditions webpage.

Have fun while floating but be aware of potential dangers. You should never float while taking drugs or alcohol. You should always use a certified floatation device when you are on the water and never float alone. Bring a fully charged cell phone with you and keep it in a sealed container in the event of an emergency. Be aware that some areas on our local waterways do not provide service for mobile phones. Be mindful of the weather forecast. Bring along sunscreen and water to drink. Wearing shoes while floating allows you to push off on obstacles if needed. Stay far away from logjams. Be sure to let people know when you're setting off from and your destination as well as your expected arrival time back.

#4 Cool Down in the Pemberton Valley Lodge Pool

You don't even have to leave the Lodge to enjoy this perk. When the sun is beaming down cool off in the Pemberton Valley Lodge Pool. Sorry this only one only applies for PVL guests.
