Holiday Events & Activites in Whistler
It's finally warmed up a little in the Pemberton Valley, after a few weeks of dry -10℃ weather the snow has started to compact. Typical of a Pemberton winter, we've got great snowball packing material all around us now. Which is perfect if you want to have a Christmas snowball fight!
Pemberton.. Whistler.. The whole Sea-to-Sky Corridor is the best place to enjoy a classic Canadian Christmas! With twinkling lights and snow covered terrain, the corridor is full of holiday events and activities to entertain the entire family.
Ready to ride? Well grab your skis and boards and head up to the mountains! Both Whistler and Blackcomb will be open over Christmas and New Years with extended hours for businesses in Whistler Village as well!
This is true for all of Whistler, from Christmas to New Year's, there are plenty of things happening to entertain people young and old from favourites like the weekly Fire & Ice Show and Whistler sleigh rides.
Fire & Ice Show
Dress warm and treat yourself to a spectacular display put on by Whistler Blackcomb's snow school elite. Whistler's legendary Fire & Ice Show will be held every Sunday at 6:30 during the winter season at the base of Whistler Mountain. You know what that means, right? There's a going to be a show on Christmas night! Come watch skiers and boarders jump through fiery hoops after you open your presents in the morning and ski during the day.
The night kicks off when skiers and snowboarders perform a wide array flips, spins and grabs off a custom made ski jump. Ramping up the excitement is the fact that athletes perform these skills while jumping through a ring of fire! Along with the rider's death-defying tricks are; the Whistler fire spinners, a live DJ, and fireworks display at the end of the show. The event is guaranteed fun for the entire family and best of all it's free to attend! Check out a video from last year's event and we'll see you on Sunday!
Whistler Sleigh Rides
Enjoy a beautiful scenic mountain sleigh ride on Blackcomb mountain with blankets, and canopies on the sleighs in case of rain or snow. Amazing views of the lights of Whistler village with a stop at a cozy cabin along the way to warm up by a crackling wood fire and enjoy a cup of hot chocolate.
Sleigh rides are the picture-perfect event for a romantic evening out or maybe even a surprise proposal. Glide through the snow drawn by amazing Percheron horses with you and your loved ones and experience the Whistler like you haven't before. Olympic Plaza Skating
With the warmer weather skating on local ponds and lakes gets more dangerous. Heavy wet snow on the ice can melt the ice quickly so caution should be taken if you're going out for some pond hockey. However, Whistler Olympic Plaza is offering free skating on their outdoor rink!
From now until April 3rd, 2017, Skate your heart out in the middle of Whistler Village with views of the surrounding mountains, Olympic Rings and thousands of twinkling lights setting the scene. Beginners and pros, alike, are encouraged to come with free helmets and push bars provided for newbie and only $5 skate rentals. Skate safe, stay safe.
More info and hours of operation can be found on the Tourism Whistler website.
