Early Season Mountain Bike Report
How has the early season biking been?
It doesn't get any better than this, the trails are in amazing shape! In the summer it gets really hot and dry creating dusty trails, but right now it's cooler and more damp allowing the soil to hold its form.
How early have people been riding this year?
All of the trails below Rudy's Trail are clear for riding. We have been riding since February this year! A lot of people like to ski in the morning and bike in the afternoon in Pemberton.
How much terrain is open?
Pretty much everything is open. You can ride up to the Pemberton Cell Tower right now.
Explain why early season riding is so popular in Pemberton?
It's important to have some sort of water retention in the soil for good riding. We see this in early spring and late fall riding in Pemberton. The water retention allows for tacky trails, better for tire traction. Plus the temperature is a lot milder and a lot more comfortable to ride in.
Can you tell us how biking in Pemberton is different from other areas in the Sea to Sky?
All of our trails are single track climbs to everyone of the descents. Our terrain is a little bit more natural a little bit more raw plus the trails tend to be steeper and flow nicely together. Every trail is accessible from town without a drive, you can hop on your bike and just go.
What are some bike events to look out for this season?
Always keep an eye out for the Nimby Fifty, Pemberton Enduro early in the season and Lumpy's Trail Race later in the year. Keep an eye out for the Trail Day event on April 23, 2016. Local bikers meet up for a trail maintenance day followed by a big BBQ afterwards. The newly established Pemberton Off Road Cycling Association (PORCA) will be holding bike meet ups throughout the year as well. Check out the Pemberton Valley Trails Association for updates on conditions and trails!
