The Mackenzie Cruise, Lumpy’s Trifecta… and Aerothlon?
Pemberton is home to some of the best mountain bike trails in the Sea to Sky Corridor. Whistler may be known for its vast trail network and Mountain Bike Park, but Pemberton's backcountry trails are a real gem. There are a number of competitions and events that happen throughout the summer in Pemberton. Here are a few upcoming mountain bike events in September and October:
The Mackenzie Cruise
The annual Mackenzie Cruise mountain bike race is back this September 16th, 2018. The competition is held on Pemberton's Mackenzie Cruise trail and is open to riders of all levels and abilities.
Participants start at the top of Mackenzie Cruise and race to the finish line at the bottom. After the ride, stop by the Community Barn for an after party with prizes, tacos, and music from a Whole Lotta Led! Registration for the race is limited to 100 racers. You can visit the Pemberton Off-Road Cyclist Association website to find more details on the Mackenzie Cruise.
Lumpy's Trifecta
Coming up this October 14th, 2018, the annual Lumpy's Trifecta honours the memory of Pemberton mountain biking legend and pioneer, Lumpy Liddell. The event takes place on the course named after him in a celebration of his life and contribution to mountain biking in the area. Check back closer to the event for more event details or stay-tuned to the PORCA facebook group.
Aerothlon Pemberton
A new event to Pemberton this year is the unique Aerothlon. This race combines trail running, paragliding, and mountain biking together for one exciting event. Aerothlon has become widely popular in Central and South America, and now local paragliding enthusiasts are welcoming the even in Pemberton, British Columbia.
The Aerothlon has three different categories of races:
- Team relay where each person does a different sport.
- Individual, where experienced hardcore athletes do all three sports, run, fly and bike.
- A tandem duo, where the athlete who runs and bikes goes tandem with the paragliding pilot.
Event organisers are looking for any interested paraglide pilots, mountain bikers, and runners to participate or volunteer in the Pemberton Aerothlon on September 1st, 2018. You can find much more information about the event by visiting Pemberton Aerothlon on the Race Roster website.
