Pemberton Disc Golf Course Opens
Exciting news for all the Pemberton disc
golf fans out there! Initial construction on a new
Pemberton disc golf course has been completed near the Nairn Falls
connector trail at One Mile Lake. As of right now 9 holes are
operational with more set to be installed in the near future.
The best part about the Pemberton Disc Golf Course it's 100% FREE and it's located in shaded area making for a comfortable playing experience all day long. The only thing needed to play the course is a disc or Frisbee which can be found at Whistler's Source for Sports and Katemado Sports.
What is Disc Golf?
For those unfamiliar with disc golf it's essentially a blend of golf and Frisbee tossing. Players start each hole on a tee-box and throw a disc to a basket that serves as the hole in the background. As in golf the idea is to reach the basket in the fewest shots possible.
Just like golf wherever the disk lands is where you have to play your next shot. The hole ends when you toss your disc into a basket like device at the end of each hole. The Pemberton Course currently consists of 9 par 3 holes.
Getting There
The easiest way to access the course is through the One Mile Lake trail system. Upon arrival at the lake take a right onto the One Mile Lake Trail (take a right when looking at the lake from the parking lot) and continue for 3 minutes until you reach the Nairn Falls Connector. Walk along the Connector Trail for 2 - 3 minutes until you see the first hole on your right hand side. Signs have yet to be placed on the course indicating holes so it's up to you to guide yourself around the course. Signage will be installed in the coming weeks.
Special Thanks
Construction on the new course was made possible by a $10,000 grant from the Whistler Blackcomb recreation program. In part with the Village of Pemberton who secured the land and several important volunteers who helped design the course and install baskets and tee-boxes.
