Scenic Duffey Road — Majestic Mountains
The scenery around Pemberton is what people rave about. Visitors come for many reasons, but the backdrop to all the adventure is still one of the main draws to our area. We know this and couldn't be prouder! Whether you enjoy horseback riding, cycling, trail running, mountain biking, cross-country skiing, snowshoeing or going for a lazy country drive, Pemberton offers incredible scenery to do this stuff in.
Duffey Lake Road Trip
In fact, the Duffey Lake Road is so lovely that it is considered an attraction itself. The road takes you along gorgeous winding paths to Lillooet. If you can make this route part of a British Columbia road trip, you won't regret it. Otherwise, whether you travel by car or otherwise, taking some time along the Duffey Lake Road for an afternoon is well worth it.
Enjoying the Journey
Mentioned in the Province as one of British Columbia's top drives, the Duffey Lake Road isn't so much about going fast as it is about enjoying the journey. Quite a lot like Pemberton itself, actually. The winding roads are often more switchbacks than highway, and the bridges you'll cross are often single lane.
Along the road, sights you'll see include Joffre Lake, Duffey Lake and Seton Lake, which is a great place for a picnic and a swim.
Take an Entire Day and Enjoy the Ride
If you'd like a real road trip, you can do the Duffey Lake Road to Lillooet, then take the Hurley River Road back to Pemberton. This option is available only in the summer months and is more suitable to 4x4 vehicles. The trip to Lillooet along the Duffey Lake Road will take around an hour and a half, but the trip along the Hurley River Road will take over 5 hours.
Spectacular Wildlife
Wildlife you might see along the way includes black bears, hoary marmots, mule deer and, perhaps the piece de resistance, big horn sheep. Blue heron are often seen along the lakes, and there is a chance of seeing mountain goats as well along the route. Truly, there are some chances to see some pretty rare and interesting wildlife on this trip.
